>Warriors mistake prone in two losses over teh weekend
The Crook County Christian/Central Christian boys basketball team was granted a reprieve on Tuesday as their scheduled game with South Wasco County High School was postponed for the second time.
"It was a gift," said Head Coach Jason Riste. "It gave us a chance to drop back, regroup and take a look at the inside."
The Warriors had dropped two games over the weekend, and not played well in either game.
On Friday the Warriors lost a home contest to Cascade Locks 48-45 in a game that Riste said was much closer than it should have been.
"We probably should have lost by 30," said Riste. "In the first quarter we had eight points and 11 turnovers but at the half we were tied at 26. They just failed to take advantage of our mistakes."
Derrick Harbaugh led the visiting Pirates in scoring with 19, while Dustin Nolin added 16. Crook County Christian/Central Christian was led by Aaron Phillips with 18, and Alex Uptain with 16. Tim Clements failed to score, but Riste noted that he kept the Warriors in the game with great interior defense and 22 rebounds on the night.
On Saturday the Warriors traveled to Dufur and were defeated 79-37.
"We played exactly the same kind of game that we played against Cascade Locks," said Riste. "And they absolutely took advantage of every single silly mistake that we made. They took care of the basketball. They passed the ball well. They played defense. It was exactly what the game would have been against Cascade Locks if they had taken advantage of it. We are having a hard time mentally playing the game."
The Warriors trailed 45-18 at the half and Dufur continued to widen their lead throughout the game. C.J. Forrestt led four Rangers in double figures with 19 points while Alex Uptain led the Warriors with 12 and Jacob Rocco added 10.
The loss drops the Warriors' league record to 0-6. They play a home game against Sherman County High School on Friday, Jan. 18, at Crook County Middle School with tip off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Then on Saturday the Warriors travel to Nixyaawii High School northeast of Pendleton for a 4 p.m. start time.
