Cowboys come back from early deficit to topple Storm

Reeher scores 27 in big win at Summit 63-53

by: LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - David Reeher scored 27 points on Friday including going 15-19 from the gree-throw line.

The Crook County High School boys basketball team got back on track on Friday, defeating a solid Summit Storm basketball team in a come-from- behind win on the road.
"We were down eight at the end of one quarter," said Head Coach Jeff Lowenbach. "We had a really defensive second quarter and held them to just five points and we were tied going into halftime, and then we kind of pulled things together in the second half. I would say that our defense from the second quarter on was what got us the win."
The 63-53 victory keeps Crook County in third place in the league standings with a 3-2 league mark and a 9-6 overall record.
David Reeher led the Cowboys in scoring with 27 points, including making 15 of 19 free-throws. Chase Dunten added 15 points, including hitting three big three-pointers, while three other Cowboys added six points apiece.
"Reeher obviously had a solid game, but everyone on the team kind of elevated their play after the first quarter and kind of came together as a group and did what they needed to do to win," Lowenbach said.
In a game that saw James Nunez, Crook County's leading scorer for the season, score only three points, the remainder of the Cowboys picked up the slack and never missed a beat.
Summit played a physical game, sending Crook County to the free throw line 29 times and the Cowboys shot much better than in a close loss to Mountain View on Tuesday making 20-29 free-throws.
Crook County plays a home game against Bend on Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. scheduled tip off, then travel to Pendleton on Friday and Hermiston Saturday.
"Bend has had a couple of real tough losses but they are a solid team," said Lowenbach. "They need to get back on that winning track and see if they can make something happen so they'll definitely be a tough opponent and then we have a huge road trip for the weekend."
