Warriors fall to Horizon Christian and Arlington over the weekend

Slow start dooms Warriors in home loss on Friday

by: LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Alex Uptain goes up for two of his six points against Horizon Christian on Friday. Uptain led the Warriors in rebounding with 11 rebounds on Friday, then scored 10 points and added eight more rebounds on Saturday in a loss at Arlington.

The Crook County Christian/Central Christian boys basketball team fell to 1-3 in league play after dropping two home games over the weekend.
On Jan. 4, the Warriors got off to a slow start and fell behind Horizon Christian 40-13 at the half before playing a better second half and losing by a final score of 46-69.
"We came out tentative and a little intimidated and we didn't defensively do the things we needed to do in the first half," said Head Coach Jason Riste. "In the second half we outscored them, so it was again two halves of basketball."
Horizon Christian was led in scoring by Bobby Cofrances with 28 points and Josh Larson with 20, while Aaron Phillips led the Warriors with 19 points and Jacob Rocco added 11. Alex Uptain led the Warriors in rebounding with 11.
Horizon Christian came out hot, hitting their first six shots in a row, and Crook County Christian/Central Christian had trouble finding the basket, and could never recover.
On Saturday, the Warriors played better leading the Arlington Honkers, at the end of the first quarter 11-10, but were unable to recover from a slow second quarter and fell 55-48.
"On Saturday we took some steps to improve our start," said Riste. "We lost by seven, but we played four quarters of basketball. That was good to see. We had some mental errors and didn't take care of the basketball the way we should have, but we did play for four quarters. We are encouraged things are heading the right way as far as putting two halves of basketball together."
Tim Clements led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points while Uptain added 10 points and eight rebounds. Josh Ball led the Honkers with 20 points.
The Warriors play a home game against perennial league power South Wasco County Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Crook County Middle School. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
