George Chase

George Austin Chase died on April 25, 2008, at the age of 101.
   Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at the Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville, Ore. Mr. Chase was born on Dec. 25, 1906, in Thermolito, Calif.He graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, majoring in Bible history. He came to Oregon in 1937 and married Alta Porfily in 1938 in Prineville.
   Mr. Chase served as pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church in Prineville, Spray, Lone Pine and Gateway. He also served as missionary to many Missionary Baptist Churches in the area.
   George was well known for his garden and took great pride in his dahlias.
   He spent his final years in the Willamette Valley.
   Mr. Chase was preceded in death by his wife Alta in 1984 and daughter Mary Ann in 1991. Survivors include: Bruce Chase and wife Kathy of Salem, Charles Chase and wife Jasmine of McMinnville; daughter Rheta Scott of Mojave, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as brothers-in-law Ivan Porfily and Charles Porfily and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to the Missionary Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Prineville.
   Arrangements are by the Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service of Salem, Ore.
