Edwin Gibbs

Edwin "Ed" Doyle Gibbs, a Prineville resident, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital.
   He was 82 years old.
   Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Prineville Funeral Home.
   Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at Prineville Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Charlie Hughbanks will officiate.
   Ed was born in Coal Salt Prairie Okla., on Dec. 16, 1924, the son of Doyle and Myrtle (Richey) Gibbs. On June 7, 1943, he married Mackie L. Whitehurst in Kiowa, Okla.
   On June 14, 1943, he was inducted into the 328th Army Air Force, where he served as a B17 flight line mechanic in England, Germany and Africa.
   Ed was honorably discharged in December 1945 and went to work for Halliburton Oil in Hobbs, NM.
   In 1949, Ed and his wife Mackie moved to Prineville, Ore., where he worked for Hudspeth Lumber as a diesel mechanic until the mill closed.
   Ed worked for Stafford Logging a short time and then for Pine Products until his retirement in 1994.
   He was a believing Christian and attended church his whole life.
   He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took great pride in his huge garden, a lot of which he donated to the Senior Center and gave away to family and friends.
   Edwin is survived by: his daughter Shari Noel and her husband Ron; his son Mark Gibbs and Shari's first husband and father of his grandchildren, Allen Seaweard all of Prineville; two grandsons, Shane Seaweard of Portland, Ore., and Dustyn Seaweard and his wife Jill of Prineville; two brothers Charles and James of Kiowa, Okla.; a sister Tranquil Richardson of San Antonio, Texas, and two great-grandchildren Lige and Jaclyn Seaweard.
   He was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Mackie (1996), one sister; one brother, a sister-in-law and friend Billie Davison.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Hospice, 1201 NE Elm St. Prineville, Oregon 97754.
   Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
