ie Ann Voorhees died Thursday, April 5, 2007, from multiple myeloma cancer in Bend, Ore.
She was 79 years old.
Marie was born on October 12, 1928, in Newton, Kan., the youngest child of Ina and Hubert Scrivner. She grew up in various places, eventually moving to Tillamook, Ore., where she graduated from high school in 1946.
She attended Willamette University for one year and then returned to Tillamook.
In 1947 she married Bill Christensen and had three sons - Lee (1952), Dan (1954) and Kim (1954).
Marie and the boys followed Bill's career to Forest Grove (1954 to 1967) and to Prineville (1967 to 1974). She worked outside the home as a legal secretary. The boys all graduated from Crook County High School.
Seeking to restart her life in the early 1970's, Marie moved to Minneapolis, Minn., and enrolled in a trade school that specialized in the travel industry. Upon graduation, she worked for Republic, then Northwest Airlines, both based in Minneapolis.
She loved the travel industry and used her employee flight benefits to visit London, New York City, Portugal, Memphis and Washington D.C.
In 1987 Marie married Ted Voorhees, an old family friend. They made their home in Anderson, Calif. Marie loved being back on the west coast with her family.
She also embraced Ted's three children, Carol, Marilee and Mark and all of their children. To many of them, she was the only grandmother they knew. She was happiest when the house and pool was full of them.
Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Scrivner.
She is survived by: her husband Ted; sister Lavern Thomas, Denver, Colo.; sons Lee and Peggy Christensen, Sisters, Ore., Dan and Susan Christensen, Portland, Ore., Kim and Linda Christensen, Bend, Ore., and Mark Voorhees, Anderson, Calif.; and daughters Carol and Chris Warren, Redding, Calif., and Marilee Tatom, Redding. There are an additional 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
