Jehu Strand

Jehu Isaac "Jay" Strand, a Prineville resident passed away on Monday, April 2, 2007.
   He was 71 years old.
   Graveside services were held Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Mill Creek Cemetery. Pastor Joel Dunaway officiated.
   Military honors were provided by the Crook County N.J.R.O.T.C. A fellowship reception followed at the Lookout Mountain Grange Hall.
   Jay was born in Medford, Ore., on May 23, 1935 to William B. and Mabel R. (Turner) Strand.
   He was raised on Mill Creek by his grandparents. He attended and graduated from Crook County High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He married Helen K. Greene in Vancouver, Wash., on July 30, 1959.
   Jay worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a mechanic, then at Coin Mill Work American Pine, for 33 years with perfect attendance for 32 years as a hyster mechanic. He retired in 2000.
   He was a very sought after mechanic and was known to be able to fix anything.
   Jay loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing for trout and catfish and fishing in the ocean. He also enjoyed reading local history.
   During high school in lapidary class he gained an appreciation of polishing rocks and became an avid rock collector. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Sagebrush Shufflers since 1977. He was also a member of the Baptist Church in Prineville.
   Jay is survived by: his wife Helen of 48 years; son John and his wife Elizabeth "Liz" Strand of Prineville; a sister Sophia Worley of Spartanburg, South Carolina; daughters Carla Flanigan of Walker, West Virginia, and Lisa and her husband Doug Smith of Bend; a brother George and his wife Fay Strand of Florence, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a grandchild, his parents, one brother, one sister, three aunts and one cousin.
   Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
