Cowboys beat LaGrande
Crook County scores 61 in first half of easy 89-69 victory over the Tigers
The Crook County High School boys basketball team played a near flawless first half, then coasted to a win against LaGrande on Friday, Dec. 21, defeating the Tigers 89-69.
"In the first half we were 14 of 15 on three-pointers," said Head Coach Jeff Lowenbach. "You don't see that very often. It was a pretty crazy deal."
Chase Dunten hit a school record, nine three-pointers, all in the first half, as the Cowboys dropped 61 points in the half while holding LaGrande to 25.
Dunten finished the game with 31 points while James Nunez and David Reeher put in 15 points apiece.
Reeher started the night off with a two-handed dunk over a 6-foot-6 Tiger post player so LaGrande spent the rest of the game attempting to double-team him. The Cowboys took advantage with the 6-foot-9 Reeher passing the ball out to unguarded perimeter players.
"We didn't shoot the ball quite as well in the second half, and we worked on a couple of things," said Lowenbach. "Give LaGrande some credit. They actually played really well in the second half. They executed offensively and they made their shots. When it came down to it we probably relaxed a little bit and we spread out our playing time more evenly."
The win improved the Cowboys' season record to 4-3 with a three-day tournament at Marshfield on Dec. 27-29, the last games remaining before they start league play on Jan. 4, with an important home game against the highly regarded Hermiston Bulldogs.
