Kenneth Vernon Kirby

Kenneth Vernon Kirby of Prineville died Sun., Jan. 6 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. He was 88 years old.
   He was born Jan. 30, 1913 in Cle Elum, Washington, to Rufus and Emily (Waters) Kirby. The family moved to Bend in 1920 where he grew up and graduated from high school.
   He moved to Prineville in 1940 to work at the Shell Oil Plant and later managed the Firestone Store.
   He married Marian in 1957 in Bend. That same year he opened the Kirby Furniture Store which was later relocated to the old JC Penney Building on Third St. He sold the store in 1989, and retired a couple of years later.
   His interests included fishing, golfing, and playing bridge with friends. He was a member of the Prineville Golf and Country Club, the Elks Lodge and the Royal Arch Masons.
   Survivors include his wife, Marian Kirby; brother, Curtis Kirby of Seattle; nieces, DeAnn Pickett of Seattle, Jim and Joyce Brown of Kent; Jim and Barbara Crouch of Kennewick, Wash., and several cousins.
   Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Pioneer Memorial Hospice, 1201 NE Elm St.
   Cremation will be held at the Prineville Heritage Crematory under the direction of Prineville Funeral Home.
