Romeyn "Arlen" Gumpert

Former Prineville resident Romeyn "Arlen" Gumpert of Hermiston died Dec. 9, 2001 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash. He was 65 years old.
   He was born April 13, 1936 in Bend to Willard and Rosalie Hodges Gumpert. He was raised in Bend and Prineville and attended Crook County High School.
   He joined the US Army, serving overseas in Korea. He returned to Oregon after the service and went to work for the Oregon State Police in Klamath and Hermiston. He also worked for Hermiston Auto Parts in the late 60's.
   He married Dixie `Diane' Fletcher in 1971 in Reno, Nev. He worked for Gem Star Security in Caldwell, Idaho until retiring in 2001.
   He was a member of the Eagles, a past Elks officer, and the Catholic church.
   His interests included hunting, fishing, boating, yardwork, vacationing and spending time with family.
   Survivors include his wife, Diane Gumpert of Hermiston; father, Willard Gumpert of Prineville; sons, Kenneth Gumpert of Plant City, Fla., Gregory Gumpert of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ricky Walsh of Benton City, Wash., Curtis Walsh of Benton City, Wash.; daughter, Vanessa Ortiz of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; sister, Rae Ashcraft of Prineville; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandson and one great-granddaughter.
   Visitation is scheduled for Wed., and Thurs. Dec. 12-13 at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
   Private family inurnment will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery in Hermiston.
