Jesse William Givens

Jesse William Givens of Prineville died Fri., Dec. 7, 2001 at his home. He was 83 years old.
   He was born Feb. 22, 1918 in Poplarville, Miss. to Samuel and Elvie (Lewis) Givens. He moved to Oregon in 1931 and graduated from Union High School in 1937.
   He married Neva Kelley in Winnemucca, Nev., in 1939 and they lived in Pondosa where Mr. Givens worked at the mill. They moved to Prineville in 1941.
   Mr. Givens served in the US Navy from 1943-45. He later worked at mills in Prineville and Warm Springs. He owned the Flying A Service Station in Madras and in 1961 worked in Power Line Construction. Following the death of his first wife in 1971 he married Dorothy Kraft in 1972. He was a member of the VFW Club and the Eagles Club of Prineville. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards and spending time with family.
   Survivors include his son Kelley Givens of Prineville; daughter, LaRae Dunn of Troutdale; sisters, Gertrude Lewis of Prineville, Lessie Wellenbrock of Pasco, Wash., and Katherine Barbee of Palm Desert, Calif.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both wives, one son and one sister.
   Funeral services were held this morning with private burial to be held in Baker City.
   Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
