the editor: Regarding your front page article in the Dec. 4 issue, “Police to Help Santa”, officer Brandon Smith said about helping needy families, “We’ll pull up to the house, turn on our overhead flashers and make the delivery”. How many people are embarrased by being needy? Most of them I would guess. So to announce you are arriving at a home that is in need of help, with flashing lights, seems downright inconsiderate, even cruel. I suppose those who make these deliveries will want to turn on their siren, too, just to let the neighbors know they are calling on a poor family. How many people will now turn down the help they could use to avaid this embarassment? I suggest the police and fire departments give it a second thought. Martel Scroggin Prineville
