Joan Elizibeth Powell
She was born July 16, 1937 in Delano, Calif. to William D. and Marguerite (Martin) Hiett. The family moved to Los Angeles where she attended school and married Jack Halbert. The couple divorced in 1958. She worked as a waitress in Los Angeles when she met and married Cleve Johnson in 1960 and they divorced in 1965. She married Dan Powell in 1969 in Stockton, California and they moved to Prineville in 1977.
Mrs. Powell operated her own daycare business where she provided care for children of many Prineville residents. She enjoyed working with children and was like a grandmother to many she cared for. She also enjoyed collecting owls in all shapes and sizes.
She is survived by her children, Debra Davies of Portland, Jack Halbert of Madras, Carl Johnson of California, Chris Brixey of Prineville and Kim Powell of Prineville; grandchildren, Charlie McCollum, Jerimiah Johnson of California, Shanta and Jessica Johnson of Texas, Billie Davies, Billie and Jo-Jo Roberts of Portland, Shawn, Christopher and Katrina of New Mexico, Patricia Wilson of Culver, Alyssa and Chianne Brixey of Prineville, Talon Arnold, Kyla and Trisia Tucker of Prineville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Memorial services will be held Sat., Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at East Side Church in Prineville. Contributions will be accepted.
