the editor: Dee Wettstein has been a faithful and enthusiastic coordinator for the SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) program for five years. She started out as a volunteer reader at Ochoco and then moved to Cecil Sly when it opened. Her organizational skills, her detailed knowledge of school procedures and her love of children have made that program an integral part of the school and a big success. Dee has also been a member of the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and has been a judge for high school end of the year projects. She is always ready to lend a hand to make any worthwhile community project more successful, and her ability to think ahead and problem solve has been a great help to me as we have developed the SMART program in Prineville. Dee knows what children need to be successful in school and in life. She has the ability to make them believe they can succeed. She is able to articulate what is meaningful and fun about volunteering to work with a child, and has the energy to make possibilities into a reality. Dee would bring all these qualities to a position on the School Board. I encourage you to consider how necessary all these qualities would be to someone who took that job.
