The fifth in the series of lectures co-hosted by the Crook County Historical Society and the Friends of the Crook County Library will look at the history of Place Names in Crook county.

Steve Lent will present "Landmarks and History of Place Names in Crook County" on Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Crook County Library's community room. The public is invited and admission is free.
The landmarks of Crook County often have colorful and interesting names.
The story behind the names are even more interesting.. This slide presentation by local historian Steve Lent utilizes rare photographs from the Bowman Museum , private collections, as well as his own collection of local landmarks to graphically illustrate this interesting aspect of our local history.
Steve Lent grew up in the Central Oregon area and has been actively involved with the Crook County Historical Society for several years. He has twice served as President of that organization.
He developed interest in local history while attending college at the University of Oregon and has been re-photographing local historic photos in cooperation with the Bowman Museum for several years.
His collection of photographs of Central Oregon history include nearly 3,700 photos and over 2,000 slides. Steve has recently completed writing an illustrated compilation of the origin of geographic place names of Crook County that will soon be published by the Crook County Historical Society.
