Elementary school students were fitted with new bicycle helmets this week, gifts from the Prineville Police Department. The Prineville Traffic Safety Committee donated 500 helmets to the department for distribution to the children. The helmets were purchased with grant funds from the Alliance For Community Traffic Safety in Oregon, an organization whose aim is building safer communities. Officer Dawn Reeher and other members of the police department presented classes on bicycle safety while fitting the children with the helmets. A related story can be found in the Features section.
