Locally members of the various police agencies gathered at the courthouse to ceremoniously lower the flags to half staff.
All over the nation, police officers who have given their lives in the performance of duty are being honored - it is National Police Officers Memorial Week.
The memorial week was signed into federal law in the 1960s by President J.F. Kennedy.
Officers of the Prineville Police Department, Crook County Sheriff's office, including members of the sheriff's Marine Patrol, took part in today's ceremonies. The flags will remain at half staff through the week.
