Bert Eugene Hamm, a retired Portland fire chief, died at his home on Saturday, May 12, 2001. He was 57.
Bert was born in Tahlaquah, Oklahoma on June 12, 1943 to Dorothy and Bert Lee Hamm, Jr. In 1966 he joined the Portland Fire Bureau, serving for 27 years, retiring in 1993 as Division Chief of Operations.
In 1996, following Bert's retirement the family moved to Prineville. He had spent many summer vacations here camping with his family and friends.
Bert is survived by his wife Judy, children; Jodi O'Grady, Portland, Kathy Hamm, Portland, Charlene Domiguez, Germany, Rick and Jeremy Holzwart, Prineville; brother William Hamm of Vancouver, Wash., sister Sherri Anderson of Raymond, Wash., and one grandchild, Kellie O'Grady. He was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Lee and his mother and father.
Internment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland. The family requests that remembrances be made to the Doernbecher's Children's Hospital.
