Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Smazal
Larry was born on Sept. 9, 1920 to Joseph and Emma (Brozek) Smazal in Blenker, Wisc. He attended school in Blenker.
After school Larry went to work in the shipyards in Oregon. He then was a milk deliveryman. On Dec. 16, 1944 Larry married Irene Foemmel in Portland, Oregon. The couple moved back to Wisconsin where Larry worked at Hercules Rocket Powder Plant in Baraboo, Wisc.
Two years later the couple moved back to Oregon and he went to work in Bridal Veil, Oregon from 1946 to 1958. He then worked for Snyder Farms before moving to Prineville. Once in Prineville, Larry went to work for Coin Millwork for 25 years. He retired from Coin Millwork as a rip saw operator in 1986.
His hobbies included yard work, gardening, farming, singing, bird watching and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lookout Mountain Grange #741 and the Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife Irene in Prineville, daughter and son-in-law; Bobbie and James Hornbeck of Prineville, daughter; Casey Smazal in Halifax, Vt, grandsons; Richard and Jennifer Asher of Colville, Wash, Michael Asher of Prineville, great grandsons; Caleb, Elijah and Jacoby Asher of Colville, Wash. and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospice or the Senior Center Meals on Wheels.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at the Mill Creek Cemetery. Reverend Steve Uffleman will officiate.
