> Velma La Verne of Prineville passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2001. She was 83 years old.
Velma was born on September 23, 1917 to Grover and Agnes (Tate) Keeton in Mitchell.
Velma attended the Old Howard School and graduated from Crook County High School in 1935. She was a homemaker until 1962 when her first husband Paul Ammons passed away.
She then attended Central Oregon Community College in 1966 and 1967 where she obtained her LPN Nursing Degree and worked at the Ochoco Nursing Home for a number of years. She then worked for the Madras Nursing Home until her retirement. After retiring Velma worked at The Neat Repeat for 9 years.
Her hobbies include gardening, her lodge, and being with her family and friends. She was a member of the Rebecca's and the First Baptist Church in Prineville since 1995.
Survivors include three sons; Willard Ammons of Greenville, S.C., Ronald Ammons of Portland, Ore, and Douglas Ammons of Powell Butte, Ore., daughter; Sandra Ammons of Rock Springs, Wyo, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister; Elvamae Lewis of LaGrande, Ore, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Hospice.
Viewing will be held from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Whispering Pines Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Craig Smarts will officiate.
