Byron L. Johnson

Byron L. Johnson of Prineville died at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville on May 25, 2001. He was 67 years old.
   He was born July 7, 1933 in Wheeler County, Texas to Virgil and Virgie (Keys) Johnson.
   He was a Chief Petty Officer for the US Navy with over 20 years of duty including ten years in the reserves. He moved to Prineville in 1980 which was the same year he married Louise.
   He remained active in the workforce after retiring from the US Navy by becoming the head mechanic and handling many projects for Jim Puckett in Prineville. He built many decks especially near the Prineville Reservoir and in Crook County in general.
   Mr. Johnson was a member of the American Legion Post 29 in Prineville and held offices in the post. He was a past member of the Eagles in Prineville.
   Survivors include his wife Louise of Prineville; mother, Virgie Johnson of Portland; children, Michael Johnson of La Conner, Wash., David Johnson of Grandview, Idaho, Lee Johnson of Dewey Beach, Wash.; stepsons, Lester Turner of Garden City, Kansas and Raymond Turner of Renton, Wash.; sisters, Clo Edwards of Salem; Joy Ritchie of Siletz and Wanda Ladwig of Bend; numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   He was preceded in death by his father and one step-daughter.
   A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at the Vets Club in Prineville.
