Salute to graduation class of 2001

2001 graduates stride confidently into the future with a celebratory graduation event
In a flurry of laughter and tears the 2001 Crook County High School seniors donned their mortarboards, dressed in traditional Crook County blue and gold to celebrate their accomplishments last weekend at the Ward Rhoden Stadium.
Plenty of parents, friends, teachers and family filled the stadium to give the graduating class a proper send off leaving a standing-only option for late comers.
The NJROTC started out the ceremonies and the graduating senior members of the Jazz Choir sang the National Anthem. Former Oregon Speaker of the House Lynn Lundquist gave an encouraging speech along with five valedictorians including Amy Piepenbrink, Ryan Dutli, Trinity Welch, Justin Williams and Heather Smith.
About 155 students stepped forward to receive their diplomas this year. Many of those students took with them in excess of $615,000 worth of scholarships while 14 students won scholarships to colleges and universities, primarily from throughout the northwest.
More than 120 additional students received special awards during a ceremony which was held earlier last week to salute academic and special efforts.
