It really all started when Crook County Judge Scott Cooper noticed that the ivy covering the front of the courthouse was also covering the great state seal. Most people, he concluded, probably didn't even know the seal was there, centered high above the front entrance. When Greg Hinshaw and his assistant Cody Edgerly started looking into it however, they found that the roots of the ivy were starting to dislodge the mortar between the stones. The decision was made to remove some of the ivy. Edgerly, using a motorized scaffolding started the work last weekend. The next project to make the historic courthouse even more presentable, Cooper said, will be to have the courthouse clock tower painted.
