Kenneth Eugene Newburn

Kenneth Eugene Newburn of Prineville died at his home on Wed., July 18, 2001. He was 75 years old.
   He was born March 31, 1926 in Orva "Doc" and Helen (Svoboda) Newburn in Wilbur, Neb. He attended Sabin Grade School in northeast Portland and graduated from Benson Poly Tech in Portland.
   He served four years in the US Navy and following his honorable discharge married Ellen in Portland.
   He worked for Pacific NW Bell for about two years and then for Pacific Power and Light until he retired in 1988. He moved to Prineville in 1977 from Bend.
   He enjoyed playing in a band, fishing, hunting, working with the Shriners and their children. He was instrumental in organizing the East-West Shrine Football Games in Baker City.
   He enjoyed playing with the Jefferson County Community Band, Tom Shaver Band and at the Soroptimists Senior Center. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, VFW, IBEW 125 Electrical Union in Portland and he was a past member of the Elks Lodge.
   Survivors include his wife Ellen of Prineville; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and June Newburn of Bend; daughter, Catherine Thompson of Prineville; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Ferland of Clackamas; son, Robin Newburn of Kuna, Ida.; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Marilyn Newburn of Lebanon; 11 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
   He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Memorials may be made to Al Kader Temple Transportation for the Children Fund, 8651 SW Salish Lane, Wilsonville, Ore., 97070 or to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Hospice.
   Memorial services were held Sun., July 22.
