CCHS Rodeo Club applauded

To the editor: We would like to express our thanks to the members of the Crook County High School Rodeo Club who came last week to help us with the Library Summer Reading Program. Our theme this year is Western and last week it was Horses and the craft bucking broncos. We contacted Dana Millen, who is the club advisor and asked if she could find some members who could come to the program and demonstrate the type of skills they would use in competition. We were very fortunate in having three members of the rodeo club who volunteered to come and help us. They were Colleen Kingsbury, Brandon Beers, both from Powell Butte and Mitch Colman, a visiting high school rodeo member from Mollala. They not only volunteered their time but also bought the roping dummies used to practice catching and tying down the animals along with the various ropes used in the event. They also took time to explain the skills needed for each event and the timing and judging. These are fine young people and a credit to Crook County and Oregon; perhaps you are unaware that six of our students have advanced to the National High School Rodeo finals in Springfield, Ill. Here they will compete with students from all over the country and we know that their performance and behavior will be a credit to us and make us all proud. Pam Pugsley Asst. Director C.C.
