S&R unit just gets better and better

To the editor: The Search and Rescue command post facility has proven to be an asset for organizing the SAR unit when we are called out in an emergency. Initially, it was a place to assemble but we had goals to make it a “ready” facility with our radios and other equipment. It has been no small task to improve the building and site. The facility is also used by the Crook County Sheriff and staff as needed. As improvements are made, we would like to express our gratitude to those who help us to accomplish these goals. Earlier this spring, we were able to add a powerful outdoor antennae that has made our post an excellent radio signal transmitting base. In part, we owe thanks to Communications Plus for their help. We also owe a big “thank you” to all of the Kiwanis members for their volunteer work that produced the $1,000 they gave us for radio and equipment upgrades. Recently, we have been able to make the facility more secure as well as enhance the appearance and function of the site by the addition of fencing and cement work. Sincere thanks are extended to ABC Fence (Larry Smith and crew), and to Dave Winslow and Tim Carter Construction for the cement work as well as to Ochoco Ready Mix for providing the cement. The Crook County Sheriff Search and Rescue unit is in appreciation to local businesses and other community members for assisting us in our efforts to provide the best service possible to the citizens of Prineville-Crook County.
