Firefighters fill up boots with bucks

Motorists were most generous in making contributions over the weekend to MDA fundraising effort
Last Saturday motorists traveling along Third Street downtown were confronted with an unusual sight - about a dozen Prineville Firefighters collecting donations amidst the traffic flow.
Passing drivers were invited to contribute to the department's effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Dig into their pockets, they did as more than $4,000 was raised over the four hour-long effort.
"The goal was to raise $1,500," said John Hite, "So, the community was very, very generous. We far exceeded any expectations we or the MDA had for this community."
Volunteer firefighter will present the donations from Crook County during the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on September 3 in Portland.
