Filling the ‘Boot’ is greatly appreciated

To the edior: On behalf of the Prineville Volunteer Firefighters Association, I would like to send a thank you to the community for making the fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association such a success last Friday. This is our first year being involved with the “MDA Fill The Boot” program, an event in which firefighters stand in the road and ask passersby to drop money into a firefighter’s boot. We had a goal of raising $1500, and we surpassed it and raised $4069.23 (as well as a key, an earring, and some .22 shells). It was amazing, people would stop on a green light and hold out their money while others would go to the bank and return to help us fill the boot. I would like to send special thank you’s to Hans’ pharmacy and to Wells Fargo Home Mortgage for letting us park our fire equipment in their parking lots, to the Sandwich Factory for the great deli lunch, and to the radio stations (KWPK and KRCO) and the Central Oregonian for the advertising. Thanks also to Melinda, April, Malea, and Karen at Community First Bank for counting all the money, and to the volunteers that sacrificed their Friday to stand in the middle of a highway and get sunburned. Time and again the community has proven their commitment to help others in need, and we should all be proud to be a part of it. Jeremy Logan Firefighter/EMT
