VFW gives thanks to community

To the editor: May we use your “Letter to the Editors” forum to offer a very sincere thank you to the Paint Box? The American Legion has been making a concerted effort to refurbish the flag poles used at the “Y” on holidays and special events. Towards that end, the Paint Box generously donated the paint necessary to repaint the pole. We greatly appreciate their willingness to help us in this important venture. During this process, it was determined that the wind, sun, and traffic exhausts have taken their toll on a number of the flags; 25 replacements had to be purchased. This has more than exhausted the special flag fund of the Legion. If any of the local businesses (or individuals) would like to be a part of ensuring that these flags fly proudly and properly, they can do so by donating the cost of a flag (approximately $20.) to the American Legion Flag fund. Contributions may be sent to the American Legion at 405 North Main Street, Prineville, Oregon 97754. Finally, thanks to the entire community for their continued support of our patriotic activities. Pause to acknowledge the flags as you drive by on Labor Day. We hope to see all of you at the POW/MIA memorial dedication on Sept. 15. Dave Swanson Post Commander
