Residents on Willowdale Road can expect to continue using the detour they've had to contend with since the work on the bridge over Ochoco Creek began. Originally, the new bridge and repaving project was to be completed by the end of October, but now it looks like the new bridge won't be open for business until as late as the second week of November. The old bridge was sitting on shallow footings and could have easily been washed out. The new bridge, seen here, is built of huge concrete beams sitting on pilings driven deep into the ground and protected with concrete caps. When the bridge crew complete their end of the job, a paving crew will rebuild that section of the road and top it all off with asphalt. A major portion of the $173,000 project is coming from federal sources with the county putting up about 10 percent.
