Denton O. Cox

Denton O. Cox of Prineville died Oct. 18, 2001 in Coos Bay. He was 81 years old.
   He was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Shannon County, Missouri, to James Bonapart and Mary Ellen (Campbell) Cox. He was raised and educated in Missouri and served in the US Army during WWII.
   He married Wanda Chrisco in 1945 in East St. Louis and they moved to Oregon later that year. They made their home in several logging communities where he worked as a timber faller and then as a log truck driver.
   They moved to John Day in 1959 and then to Prineville in 1966. He owned a operated his own truck until retiring in 1982. After retiring he worked part-time in the summers for several local companies.
   His hobbies included fishing, hunting and playing the guitar. He enjoyed traveling, watching baseball games and reading.
   Survivors include his wife, Wanda Cox of Prineville; son, Dennis and Robin Cox of Prineville; daughter, Kathleen and Tim Cardin of Prineville; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sister, Beatrice Atchison of Eminence, Missouri.
   He was preceded in death by one son and four siblings.
   Memorial services were held yesterday.
   Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary of Coos Bay and Whispering Pines Funeral Home of Prineville.
