Crook County High and Middle School OSSOM (Oregon Student Safety on the Move) chapters, in partnership with the Crook County Community Coalition, will kick-off the annual Life Lights holiday safety campaign at the Crook County Courthouse tree lighting ceremony on Saturday evening after the parade.
The Life Lights campaign commences with stringing red lights on the big blue spruce tree on the courthouse lawn.
Parents, students and community members are asked to make a Life Lights pledge that "I will not drink and drive or ride with a driver who has been drinking."
As each pledge is received, a red light on the tree is replaced with a white light. As the white lights accumulate, the community will be able to visually see the growth of our commitment to a safe and healthy holiday.
Community support for the project has been wonderful. Special effort has been made by Crestview Cable to get the lights on the tree.
The whole project has been very successful and reaffirms the commitment in this community to make Prineville and Crook County a safe and healthy environment for our kids and families.
Pledges will be available in many local businesses and schools and forms are also available at the Family Resource Center, 205 NE Fourth Street. Call 416-1095 for more information.
