n E. Bergsma of Alfalfa died Sun., Dec. 2, 2001. He was 84 years old.
He was born April 12, 1917 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to Karst and Sadie (Kamp) Bergsma. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Alaska during WWII.
After the war he married Jeannette and they moved to Swiss Home where he worked in a mill and did home construction. They moved to Camp Creek on the McKenzie River where he ran a dairy and raised his family.
In 1980 he pioneered a large hay farm in Lower Bridge. After he and Jeanette were divorced he moved to Alfalfa in 1989 where he continued to farm.
Survivors include long-time companion, Patty Waters of Alfalfa; son, Karst Bergsma of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Lisja Bergsma of Kelso, Wash.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Bergsma of Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was preceded in death by two siblings and one grandson.
Memorial services were held earlier today in Alfalfa.
