ene Roger Sherman, a resident of Redmond passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at St. Charles Medical Center of Redmond. He was 88 years old.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 6, at the Highland Southern Baptist Church in Redmond. Pastor Craig Smart officiated. Private interment services have been held at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
Mr. Sherman was born on August 20, 1916 in Pitman, New Jersey, the son of Eugene and Lelia (Wiltlee) Sherman.
He met Marjorie Viola Hager in Prineville, Ore., and they were married there March 28, 1942.
Roger worked for Hyster in Portland, then in auto parts in Prineville and Madras. He was a custodian for Metolius Elementary School some years before retirement.
Roger lived out his Christian faith. He belonged to Baptist churches in Prineville, Madras, and Redmond, Ore. He taught and preached the Word in various outlying churches with the American Sunday School Union.
He enjoyed playing board games, fixing small appliances and woodworking. Gospel music was a large part of his life. He also spent many hours at the Madras, Prineville and Redmond senior centers. His children will always remember the Sunday drives they took when they were young. Roger is survived by: his wife Marjorie of Redmond; a sister Helen Connel of Sewell, N.J.; children John Sherman of Portland, Dianne Sherman of Cedar Hill, Ore., Elaine Kelley of Bend, Ore., and Mary McNeil of LaPine, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
