Curtis Madden

Curtis Loren Madden, Fossil, died Friday, December 17, 2004 at the age of 76, in Bend, Oregon.
   A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Masonic Lodge in Fossil. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
   A true Irishman, Mr. Madden was born on March 17, 1928 in Norton, Kansas, to John W. "Jack" and Helen D. Searls Madden.
   He attended schools through the eighth grade in Norton County, Kansas, then moved with his parents and sister to Kelso, Oregon, in 1940, attending Sandy High School until he began work at the Keizer Shipyards in Portland
   in 1944 at the age of 16.
   In the mid-1950s, he found the love of his life, Elva Louise Luther and they were married June 22, 1957 in Stevenson, Washington.
   Mr. Madden was a veteran of the Korean conflict and worked over 30 years at the Kinzua Pine Mill, later known as Kinzua Corporation.
   He was a 32nd degree Mason, a past Worshipful Master and lifetime member of Fossil Masonic Lodge #89 AF & AM, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Baker, Orient of Oregon. He also was a 34-year member of the Condon Elks Lodge, #1869.
   An avid fisherman, he enjoyed sharing his love of fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.
   He is survived by his wife Elva of Fossil; three daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Jeff Comini of Prineville; Linda and Nick Miller, and Glenda and Ward Lantis of Bend, and three grandchildren, Jared Comini and Travis Comini of Prineville and Elizabeth Lantis of Bend; nieces and nephews, Sandy and Bill Johnson of John Day and Jerry and Deloris Luther of Fossil. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Cole.
