William E. Phifer

William "Bill" E. Phifer, a resident of Bend, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at St. Charles Medical Center of natural causes. He was 85.
   William was born in Haigler, Neb., on Nov. 2, 1921, the son of William H. and Mabel (Wall) Phifer. William graduated from McCook Junior College in McCook, Neb. He received his master's degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. He married M. Lorraine in Goodland, Kansas, in 1942, and they moved to Portland in 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Bill taught at Canby Junior High and Milwaukie Junior High until his retirement in 1986. Then he worked at Wilhelm Funeral Home in Portland and then, upon moving to Prineville, he worked for Prineville Funeral Home.
   He is a member of St. Edward)s Catholic Church in Sisters, Ore., and a 4 degree Knight of Columbus, and a member of the Milwaukie Elks Lodge.
   A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Sisters with graveside services Friday, Jan. 7, at the Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City, Ore.
   Mr. Phifer is survived by: his wife M. Lorraine of Bend, Ore.; brother Johnnie Phifer of Loop City, Neb., brother Paul Phifer of Ft. Collins, Colo., sister Mildred Mosser, also of Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his son Danny Phifer and four brothers.
   Memorial contributions can be made to St. Edward's Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Central Oregon Home Health and Hospice.
