Darcia Lee Chaney-Mayberry
Darcia Lee Chaney-Mayberry, of Springfield, recently of Prineville, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at her son's home in Prineville. She was 77 years old.
Private funeral services will be held at the Prineville Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 3:30 p.m.
Darcia was born the daughter of Nolan and Audrey (Nash) Skiff in La Grande, Oregon on August 2, 1927. She graduated from Pendleton High, in Pendleton, Oregon in 1945. She attended University of Washington from 1945-1946, where she majored in music. She met and married Joseph H. Chaney in Pendleton on September 20, 1946; they later divorced in 1966. She married William Mayberry on March 11, 1969 in Pendleton, Oregon. Mr. Mayberry died in 1999 in Springfield.
Darcia was a concert violinist. She enjoyed horses, boating, and she raised exotic birds. At one time she had over 300 birds in her own aviary. She especially enjoyed swimming and raising fish. For over 25 years she was a professional musician, playing organ and piano in Pendleton. In 1971 she moved to Springfield, Oregon, where she played the organ for the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Springfield.
Survivors include her son Michael and his wife Cindy Chaney of Prineville, Oregon; her daughter Cheri and her husband Dale Bromell of Lowell, Oregon; her son David and his wife Debbie Chaney of Prineville; two step sons and one step daughter, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
