Charles "Chuck" R. Morgan, founder of Morgan Distributing, Inc., has died of cancer at 73. Chuck died on November 28 at his home in Ridgefield, Washington.
Chuck was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on December 20th, 1932 to his American parents, Charles S. and Frances Morgan. His family moved to Portland four years later and then finally settled in Stayton, Ore., where Chuck graduated from Stayton High School. When they first arrived to Stayton, Charles S. was awarded a Richfield Oil distributorship.
In 1951 Chuck moved to Corvallis to attend Oregon State University. The following year, he married Marlene Frank, his high school sweetheart. Shortly after the birth of Deborah, his first daughter, Chuck's father suffered a stroke, and he returned to Stayton to run the family oil business. His son David, and daughter Mary were born in 1955 and 1959 respectively.
In 1959 Chuck and Marlene bought the Blitz Weinhard Beer distributorship in Oregon City. He moved the family there and began a long successful career as the president of Morgan Distributing, Inc. The company pioneered many brands and became an Anheuser Busch distributor in 1964. Chuck remained close with customers through -out the years and retired from Morgan Distributing, Inc., in 1990 after his wife Marlene passed away.
In December of 1991, Chuck married Kathy Lucas, of Stayton, Ore., and devoted his time to raising cattle on his ranch near Powell Butte, Ore. Starting in 1996, Chuck and Kathy began purchasing various restaurants that took on the name "Morgan's", "Casey's" and "Shuckers Oyster Bar". Chuck was a 50 year member of the Oregon City Elks and also a member of the Moose Lodge in Indio, Calif., and the Columbia River Yacht Club.
Chuck was a renowned gentleman with a tremendous work ethic and old-fashioned morals. Chuck enjoyed his personal interests in fishing, hunting, yachting with family and friends and flying his plane until prevented from doing so due to a health condition. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Lucas Morgan; his daughters and their husbands, Debi Morgan and Don Aughenbaugh and Mary Morgan and Bill Williams; his son, David Morgan and his wife Shannon and stepsons and their spouses, Tim and Kim Lucas, John Patrick and Rachel Lucas, Michael and Julie Lucas, Shawn and Laurie Lucas, and Casey Lucas; and his and Kathy's 18 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the Columbia River Yacht Club from 1-4 p.m. at 37 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, Portland, OR 97217.
