a Velma (Preston) Campbell of Winchester Bay, Ore., passed away on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006.
She was 89 years old.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Fossil Methodist Church.
Burial followed at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Fossil.
Mrs. Campbell was born on March 13, 1917, in Mitchell, Ore., to Frank and Mary (Thompson) Preston.
She grew up in the Fossil area and in 1960 moved to Bend, where she lived until 1999. She also lived in Prineville and Redmond several years before she moved to Winchester Bay, where she had lived for the last three years.
She married Avery Campbell in Fossil on Aug. 4, 1935.
She worked for the Department of Forestry with her husband at fire lookout stations on Bald Butte, Wheeler Point, Long Creek and Snow Mountain. Later in life, Campbell cleaned houses for people in need of help.
She loved to make quilts and garden.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband.
Most important to her were her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by: daughters, Roetta Williams of Powell Butte, Ore., Arleeta Bouchard of Fossil, Ore. and Erlene Rolen of Winchester Bay, Ore.; a son, Arlet Campbell of Tumalo, Ore.; a sister, Crystal Burlingame of The Dalles, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three daughters (Donna, Ardean and Arlene), parents, a sister and three brothers.
