via Lorene Whitney, a Prineville resident, passed away on June 18, 2006 at her home in Prineville, Oregon.
She was 83 years old.
Funeral services will be Friday June 23, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Prineville with Dr. Barry Gridley officiating.
Sylvia was born on January 8, 1923 in Hannibal, Missouri to John and Elsie (Mayhood) Scanlon.
She attended and graduated from Corbett High School in Corbett, Oregon.
On March 29, 1947 in Corbett, Ore., she married Dwain Whitney. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prineville.
She was also a member of the Juniper Art Guild.
She loved to oil paint, can, garden and sing.
Sylvia is survived by: her spouse; her two children David Whitney of Portland, Oregon, and Janet Eby of Redmond, Oregon; two brothers Charles Scanlon of Elgin, Texas, William Scanlon of Klamath Falls, Oregon; two sisters Shirley Burket of Lakewood, Washington, and Betty Jean Ray of Toledo, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oasis through the First Baptist Church in Prineville.
Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
