Suspect in assault and truck robbery nabbed in traffic stop

by: CLACKAMAS COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE - Billy Lee RodriguezA heavy-set man suspected of assaulting a 79-year-old Woodburn resident and stealing his truck was arrested Friday after a traffic stop by the Woodburn Police Department.

Billy Lee Rodriguez, 43, of Woodburn, was arrested and charged with robbery 2 and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was later booked into Clackamas County Jail.

On Thursday, Rodriguez allegedly assaulted James Madsen, who lives east of Woodburn, and stole his truck and a motorized scooter inside of it. Madsen had offered to give the man a ride into town after his car had run out of gas.

After receiving a call from the WPD sergeant who conducted the traffic stop, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Rodriguez.

They later learned the location of the stolen truck, but are still searching for the scooter, according to a news release from Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
