Local grads receive scholarship

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Our Lady of Perpetual Adoration #2481 in Gervais recently announced the recipients of the 2013 Vivian Duda Memorial Scholarship.

Laura Ruggles, who is attending Santa Clara University majoring in anthropology and Spanish studies, was awarded $1,000.

Angela Kudrna was awarded $500 and is attending Western Oregon University majoring in gerontology with a health minor.

Applicants or their families must be registered members of Sacred Heart-St. Louis Parish. Applicants for this scholarship must be in their first year of college or higher.

Locals start school at George Fox

Following is a list of local students who joined the George Fox University campus in Newberg this fall.

They are among a group of 604 freshmen — the school’s largest class ever — joining the university.

The students include: Brianna Breshears of Woodburn; Fatima Chacon Martinez of Woodburn; Maxwell Downey of Aurora; Jasmine Florez of Hubbard; Victor Garcia-Aguilera of Woodburn; Ilya Gladkiy of Woodburn; Miguel Lopez-Ixta of Woodburn; Logan Robertson of St. Paul; Larisa Shkopu of Woodburn; and Adrienne Speer of Aurora.
