Bulldogs shut out

The Woodburn boys soccer team tasted defeat for the first time since 2011 after falling on the road to the 6A Hillsboro Spartans 2-0 Thursday. The Bulldogs entered the contest carrying a streak of 40 games without a loss and the No. 1 ranking in the 5A classification.?But a the team has struggled with injuries after a rigorous non-league schedule, and Hillsboro’s defense, which has yet to surrender a goal in four games this year, was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. With a record of 3-1-2, Woodburn still sits atop of the OSAA’s power rankings with one game left before the start of conference play. Woodburn will host 6A Glencoe (1-4) Thursday before it travels to South Albany Oct. 3 to face the Rebels (5-0) in the Mid-Willamette Conference opener for both teams.
