Thelma passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96 on Oct. 13, 2013 with family by her side.
She was born to Rosanna Pearl and James Lester Hammond at home in Monitor.
She graduated from Woodburn High School (May Queen in 1934) and received a lifetime teaching certificate from Mount Angel College.
After graduating from college she taught school in Aumsville and married Ted W. Marx, Sr.
When their children were raised, she went back to teaching at St. Agathas Catholic School in Portland where she retired.
She is survived by her brother Marlin (Arlene) Hammond of Woodburn and five children, Marcella Christoff of Lincoln, Calif., Ted W. Marx, Jr. (Marilyn) of Hubbard, Donna Lowe (Glenn) of Lake Oswego, Patty Marx of Bend, and Dorothy (Doug) Pittman of Portland, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted W. Marx, Sr. in 1996 after 57 years of marriage; her parents; five brothers, Rexall, Ronald, Harold, Howard and Harley; one sister Zeta; and one great-grandson.
Services held at 11 a.m. Oct. 18, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 10029 N.E. Prescott St., Portland.
