Richard "Dick" Lind

by: SUBMITTED  - Richard 'Dick' LindRichard “Dick” Lind, 69, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at his home in Woodburn.

Dick was born on March 30, 1944 in Tacoma, Wash., to Jim and Mary Lind. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1962. He served in the Army as a medic in Germany.

Dick married his high school sweetheart Barb Stager on July 24, 1967, and they moved to Salem. He was a journeyman meat cutter for Safeway until 1977. He then went into the grocery business “Lind’s Woodburn Market” with his brother Jim Lind and moved to Woodburn in 1978. Dick and Barb raised three children and have three grandchildren.

When he moved to Woodburn in 1978 he joined the Pudding River Gun Club. He was also a member of the Eagles and Elk’s Lodge. Dick was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He also volunteered his time to be a Little League coach for the community. Dick and Barb served in major fundraisers for the Woodburn High School Stadium. Most recently Dick enjoyed spending his free time at his property on the Siletz River.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barb, of Woodburn; three children, Debbie (Vancouver, Wash.), Kristy (Portland) and Corey (Woodburn); one daughter-in-law Annette (Woodburn); three grandchildren Antonia Kirksey, Hunter Lind and Justin Lind; his beloved Lhasa Apso, Roxie; brother Jim Lind (Woodburn); and sisters MaryAnn Rood (Florence) Maxine Huntsucker (Lancaster, Calif).

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 25 at Hoodview Church of God in Woodburn.
