Crystal Apple Award nominations due Friday, event is Nov. 22

The 12th annual Crystal Apple Awards honoring excellence in local education will be Friday, Nov. 22 at the Woodlands at Woodburn Health Center.
Title sponsor Maps Credit Union, presenting sponsor Woodburn Independent and the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce are soliciting nominations for outstanding teachers, support staff, and administrators from the Woodburn, Gervais, and North Marion School Districts as well as Lord High School, St. Luke Catholic School and Woodburn campuses for Chemeketa Community College and Pacific University.
Nomination forms are due to the chamber office, located at 979 Young St. Suite A, by noon on Friday.
Other sponsors for the event are Bowman Family Dental, Hanks Photography, Lord High School, Pacific University, Silverton Health, Woodburn Community Access Television, Yes Graphics and YG Media.
The cost of the dinner is $30 per person, with the social beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45.
Award sponsors in addition to the above are the French Prairie Kiwanis, Gervais School District, Gervais Telephone/DataVision Communications, Long Bros. Building Supply, North Marion School District, Specialty Polymers and Roo Products, Woodburn Kiwanis, Woodburn Rotary and the Woodburn School District. The chamber can accept up to eight more award sponsors.
Keynote speakers for the event are Gabriel Hernandez, a local Woodburn and OSU graduate currently creating a mentoring program for Woodburn middle school students through the AmeriCorps program, and Patrick Lanning, a vice president at Chemeketa Community College.
We anticipate over 200 people again this year, said event co-chair Karon Springstead of Maps. We encourage people to nominate those persons whove done so much for our youth.
