by: PHIL HAWKINS - North Marions Miguel Cano (left) and Aaron Caballero team up to fight past an Estacada defender in the Huskies 7-0 victory over the visiting Rangers on Oct. PHIL HAWKINS - Caballero gets a high five from teammate Dennis Zapata after scoring in the first half against the Rangers. The North Marion boys soccer team has lost just two games all season, but the Huskies are in fourth place in the Tri-Valley Conference standings and are fighting for one of the conference’s three automatic playoff berths.

If North Marion (6-2-3, 3-2-2 Tri-Valley) finishes outside the top three in the conference, the team still has an outside chance to qualify for the state playoffs by being the highest-ranked team among non-qualifying teams.

The Huskies are currently ranked 10th in the most recent OSAA polls and would qualify for the playoffs if the post-season started today, but with three games left in the season, North Marion has plenty of opportunities to move up in the standings. The Huskies were scheduled to play at Madras Tuesday, followed with a trip to Molalla Thursday.
