The St. Paul football team scored 32 points in the first quarter and on their way to their highest-scoring game of the season in an 80-20 victory over the visiting Falls City Mountaineers Friday Night.

The Bucks rushed for 459 yards and built a 56-14 lead by halftime en route to clinching a playoff berth against Falls City.

Sophomore running back Tyler Smith led the team with 235 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries as one of five different Buckaroo players to rush for more than 35 yards against the Mountaineers.

St. Paul also proved to be efficient through the air, as sophomore quarterback Carson Smith completed 8-of-10 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns, two of which went to senior tight end Keenan Wood.

The Buckaroos have now won four of their last five games after starting the season 1-3 and have been unchallenged in three conference victories. The Bucks (5-4, 3-0 Special District 1) sit at No. 9 in the recent OSAA rankings and will play host to league rival Perrydale (5-3, 3-0) this Friday.

The Bucks have won the last four league titles and carry a 26-game conference winning streak spanning at least part of the last six seasons. But the Pirates have been St. Paul’s biggest rival in Special District 1, handing the Bucks their last conference loss in 2008 and ending St. Paul’s season in 2011 with a 42-12 victory in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
