Volleyball: Trojans face off against Bonanza in first-round playoff game

After finishing the regular season ranked No. 8 in the OSAA rankings, the Kennedy volleyball team will play host to the No. 9 Bonanza Antlers in the first round of the 2A state playoffs Saturday at 2 p.m.

The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to the eight-team double-elimination tournament hosted at Ridgeview High School in Redmond on Nov. 8-9.

The Trojans (19-4, 14-2 Tri-Valley) are seeking a return trip to the quarterfinals after qualifying last year. Kennedy has consistently been among the top 2A teams in the state this year after cruising through the regular season largely uncontested.

Kennedy’s only losses this season have come against Oregon Episcopal, the No. 3 team in the 3A classification, and a trio of defeats at the hands of conference rival Culver, the No. 2-ranked team in 2A volleyball. Bonanza (16-6, 6-0 Special District 1) finished the season with wins in 14 of their final 16 regular season games. The only losses in that span were to No. 3 Days Creek in early October and to No. 4 Reedsport in the championship game of the Special District 1 tournament.

The winning team advances to play either Santiam or No. 1 Weston-McEwen in the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Nov. 8.
