An Oregon City police officer was shot when police responded to a house fire in Oregon City Sunday afternoon.
The officer was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The name and condition of the officer was not immediately available.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office reported that the suspect was dead.
Firefighters and police were called to the house near Holmes Lane and McCarver Avenue in Oregon City at about 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. Law enforcement arrived at the scene, following a report of a suspect with a gun who may have been impeding firefighters' response. Shots were fired, according to a Twitter report by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, and at least one officer was struck.
As of 3 p.m., the sheriff's office reported that the "situation in Oregon City is stabilized and police are transitioning to investigation." By 3:30 p.m., firefighters were still working that fire. Officials urge people to avoid the area of Linn and Holmes.
The suspect was confronted by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Special Weapons and Tactics team, which includes officers from Oregon City police, Milwaukie police, Lake Oswego police and West Linn police. The shooting suspect was located, confronted by the SWAT members and shots were fired.
Other law enforcement agencies responding to the scene include Portland police, Washington County Sheriff, Portland FBI and the Oregon State Police.
